Spring Updates

APRIL

We took a field trip to Wakulima USA’s newly-acquired 23-acre farmland, at the former Canter-Berry blueberry farm in Auburn. Maura was our gracious host and treated us to a delicious lunch. Wakulima’s plans for cultivation are already underway! Good news, they’ll still have U-pick blueberries.

MAY

We visited PICA-WA’s headquarters in Federal Way, with Rosi and her team to greet us with a warm welcome and a traditional foods lunch. We learned about their six sacred values that hold the work together, and about their 5 programs: Cultural Weavers, Pasifika Village Council, Wellness Navigation, Youth Navigation, and Pasifika Food Networks, including their onsite food pantry.

JUNE

We hosted a “Scarcity vs Abundance” decolonization workshop with Diana Mena of Esperanza Consulting, LLC, who guided us through historical oppressions that fuel our capitalist economy and how they keep certain people in power while others fight over crumbs.
